Abigale Lee
Miller (born on September 21, 1965) is an American choreographer teacher, dance
instructor, and reality television personality. Miller is the founder of the
Abby Lee Dance Company, that was a part of the reality television series Dance
Moms for eight seasons. On June 27, 2016, Miller pleaded guilty to the charge
of felony bankruptcy fraud. Miller was sentenced to one year and a day in
federal prison and released on the 27th of March, 2018. In April 2018, she was
diagnosed with lymphoma which is a kind of cancer that makes it difficult to
walk. To move around she is now using wheelchair. Miller was born in Penn
Hills, Pennsylvania. She was a professional dancer and was a student under her
mother at the Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. Miller at the age of 14 was given
the choreography and the coaching of one of her mother's dance teams. Miller
took control of the studio and renamed Reign Dance Productions in 1995. Miller
was certified by Dance Masters of America, and was also a member of Dance
Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter 10 (February 1986). However, DMA terminated her
membership in February 2012, citing that Miller's reality TV show Dance Moms
was a "complete misconception of the teachers we have and students"
and was harmful to the profession.
